Born on this day in 1955, in Southampton, Hampshire, musician Howard Jones. Jones owned the 80’s, with a string of more than a dozen radio hits, including New Song, No One Is To Blame and Things Can Only Get Better.
Released as a single by ‘Til Tuesday in 1985, Love In A Vacuum. From their Epic Records’ Lp, Voices Carry. Though not a huge charting song (it reached #88), it has since become a classic of the new wave era.
Released as a single in 1985, The Dream Academy’s The Love Parade. From their self-titled Lp, it was released on the heels of their smash hit, Life In A Northern Town.
Born on this day in 1959, in Glasgow, Scotland, singer-songwriter, Jim Kerr. Kerr has fronted the pop band Simple Minds since 1977, who charted in the 80’s for multiple successful singles and Lp’s.
Prince’s When Doves Cry was released as a single in May of 1984. From his Lp, Purple Rain, it was Prince’s first hit with no bass guitar track. It was an international smash, selling millions of copies and charting in over a dozen countries
Released as a single in September of 1987, The Promise, by When In Rome. From their self-titled Lp, it would quickly become an international hit, charting in the US, Europe and Australia.

Born on this day in 1958, in Manchester, England, guitarist and singer, Stuart Adamson, of Big Country. Though Big Country is known internationally for their hit In A Big Country, in the UK some two dozen of their songs charted, from 1982 to 2000.
